Real estate developer Michael Rosen adopted Rosen and grew up in an East Village penthouse apartment. When he was seven, he and his brother Morgan befriended six local boys from nearby housing projects, and they became frequent visitors to the Rosen household. The family eventually moved some of the boys into the house and helped some of them go to college. Michael Rosen published a memoir titled "What Else But Home: Seven Boys and an American Journey Between the Projects and the Penthouse" that details their experience.

Rosen's experience growing up with an extended family inspired his interest in volunteering with New York Cares to provide recreational opportunities for young people in the city and assist people living with food insecurity. Ripton Rosen currently resides in New York and is an investor like his father.
